Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association, Founding President
Upon entering Harvard as a freshman, I was disconcerted by the fact that there was no interdiscplinary venue by which experienced upperclassmen could help freshmen navigate the ample research opportunities. To that end, I started HCURA (www.hcura.org) with a few of my friends, some of whom I met at high school competitions. HCURA aims to foster an interdisciplinary science research community at Harvard College by: 1.) connecting students with research opportunities; 2.) promoting regular interactions between faculty and students through lively discussions and symposia; and 3.) encouraging exchange of ideas between students of different scientific backgrounds.

In order to promote interactions betweeen undergraduates at Harvard and other colleges, HCURA organizes the annual Harvard Undergraduate Research Symposium and is in the process of organizing the inaugural Boston Undergraduate Research Symposium. HCURA also helps students find labs and summer opportunities with a "Big Sib-Little Sib Advising Program," HURS Abstract Book, and Guide to Summer Research Opportunities. We also work with the Harvard College Admissions Office to recruit students by co-hosting the April Visiting Weekend Research Symposium.

Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society - Harvard Chapter, Vice President
Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi is "an international, multidisciplinary research society whose programs and activities promote the health of the scientific enterprise and honor scientific achievement." I first became involved with Sigma Xi through my activities with HCURA. Together with HCURA, the Harvard Sigma Xi chapter is supporting the Boston and Harvard research symposia. Please visit our chapter website for more information.

Harvard College Student Advisory Board for Science, Member
The SABS is an Undergraduate Council (student government) committee composed of eight undergraduates and Harvard's Dean of Science and two colleagues. Our purpose is to provide feedback and suggestions to Harvard College on how best to improve the undergraduate science experiences. We are currently working on recreating a 2005 study called "Undergraduate Science Experiences at Harvard College." For more information, please visit the SABS website.
